Philosophy and politics has a rich history with mentorships, as in the case of Socrates mentoring Plato, Plato mentoring Aristotle, and Aristotle mentoring Alexander the Great. Throughout the faculty and professional mentorship program I was able to experience something similar and learn from professionals about what a career in philosophy and politics is like.

Faculty MentorshipMy Faculty mentor was University of Mary's very own metaphysician, Dr. Jeremy Skrzypek, who is kind enough to let us call him Dr. S. Throughout our mentorship I learned about the requirements of philosophy grad programs and what they are like as well as what a career in philosophy after grad school looks like. I am more prepared now for my future studies than I ever would have been otherwise.

Professional MentorshipFor my professional mentor, I was fortunate enough to be assigned to Jane Sportiello, who works as a Law Clerk at the U.S. District Courthouse in Bismark. She was very knowledgeable about law and what a career in law looks like. We discussed the implications of different Supreme Court rulings and listened to a podcast about one particular case (Listen to More Perfect's Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl in the link below). I was hoping I would be able to attend an actual court session in person, but due to the pandemic I was unable to do so. Even so, I still feel that this mentorship prepared me further for a possible career in law.
